CDPS EXCEEDANCE REPORT
Mine Site: COLOWYO MINE
Outfall No.: 003A
Sample Taken by: Env. Ene⢠_ Tony Tennyson
Permit No.: CO-00045161
Sample Date: 08/10/2006
Laboratory Sample ID: S0608248-001
Exceedences: Total Suspended Solids - 156 mg/L, Report Prepared by: Kurtis Blunt
Explanation:
Precipitation records indicate that there were multiple rainfall events at Colowyo in the days
leading up to the August 10, 2006 sampling date. The sample was taken on August 10, no rainfall
events were observed on this date. The storm patterns on the days prior to the August 10 sample
suggest short duration high intensity rainfall events (thunderstorms) caused multiple inflows into the
pond from the surrounding designed ditches. Discharge from the pond began as a result of the series
of storms that passed through the area during the days prior to the August 10 sampling. Precipitation
was measured on the evening of August 8, 2006, and sampling was performed at 11:15 am on August
10, 2006, thus qualifying for consideration of the use of Alternative Effluent Criteria for this sample.
Identify Support Info:
Relevant laboratory data from Outfa11003A
Colowyo Mine -Ambient Air Network: 3'rd Qtr. 2006 Precipitation & Temperature Data
Proposed Action:
Flocculation chemicals approved in the CDPS permit will be added to the pond waters in order to
reduce the TSS concentration of the waters that could potentially be discharged from the pond to
below the MCL of 35 mg/L in the future. Colowyo is also working with representatives from GE
Betz to identify flocculation chemicals and treatment options in order to prevent future TSS MCL
exceedences.
Stormwater avenues into the pond are being re-evaluated and will be modified as necessary to
minimize sedimentation caused by runoff originating from disturbed areas.
Sediment cleanout of his and was completed during October, 2006.
Name: ~~
Date of Submittal:-~ ~~~;7////
h_Cl: C_H51 f)'21P wQC'D'~21.1 C'DPti PcnniO^_1.1.2 Hugeaions& Rr~rL.'?Oi)e1l'UPi 8sca~Jance Rzunn_Of3A_dnc
