MINING PLAN EXHIBIT C
• 1. General Plan
The property boundary has been surveyed on site and the permit area will be surveyed prior to any
site disturbance. Map E-1 and should be acceptable to the Trails 2000 club as well as Rio Blanco
County.
Prior to any mining operations, the sediment control system will be installed, which consists of a 30
feet high berm made of topsoil on the south side of the property, which is meant to isolate runoff
water on and off the site. A 2 feet high topsoil berm will be placed on the east side of the permit area
for the same purpose. The berms will also contain the runoff from the 100 year - 24 hour event
within the permit area. If a 100 year flood occurs, the berms should isolate the permit area from the
rest of the floodplain, even though the majority of the permit area is within the 100 year floodplain.
The berms also serve the purpose of temporarily storing the topsoil from the mine pit and facilities
areas. All sideslopes for the temporary piles will be 2.OH1.OV. Once mining is terminated, these
piles will be graded back into the lake to help create shelf wetlands.
As shown on Map E-1, the plan of operation is to initially strip the topsoil from the mining area and
the facilities area, which is approximately 8.07 acres. This material is expected to average 3.3 feet
in thickness, therefore the volume to be moved is 42,960 cubic yards. The topsoil stockpile area al-
located at the southern end of the permit area as shown on the map. The topsoil stockpile will have
an average height of 25-30 feet and will be seeded immediately with the seed mix described in the
reclamation plan or any other mix deemed appropriate by the Division. No slopes of the stockpile
will exceed 2.OH:1.OV. The south pile at a height of 30 feet and a length of 670 feet will hold 44,666
cubic yards, therefore, the pile area is adequate.
A Cat D-8 or D-9 dozer is expected to perform the stripping and stockpiling. Scrapers could also be
used.
Once this work is completed, the excavation of gravel will begin to allow dewatering of the pit. A
D-8 or D-9 dozer and/or Cat type 988 loader will be used to push or carry the gravel to the pit facili-
•
Piceance Pit 7/01 13
