5>~ _ SQ~~;~„ M SOILS RESOURCE INFORMATION
Revised 6-16-81
Plate 13 shows an estimate of the thickness of soil on the
Bourg property. This is based on field observation, on 15 backhoe
trenches, and 10 auger holes. The back hoe trenches and auger holes
are located on Plate 13. A composite soil sample was taken from
the A-B horizons of Backhoe Trenches 1-12 plus 14 and 15. A-sample
of thin, rocky soil typical of the ridges of the area was taken
from Backhoe Trench 13. Samples from the auger holes were taken
of the first foot, 2-3 feet, and 4-5 feet. All of these soils
samples are shown in Table 10.
The soils maps are based on a soils survey prepared by the U.S.D.A.
North Park Soil Conservation Service. Their district conservation-
ist, Kenneth Lutz, also supplied the following descriptions of these
soils:
FLUETSCH SERIES (Map symbol: X15-AE) (73% of property)
The Fluetsch series consists of deep, well-drained soils
formed in calcareous alluvium from sandstone and sandy shales.
They occupy alluvial fans, old high terraces and valley_filled
. sideslopes at elevations of 8,000 to 9,000 feet. Slopes are
2 to 15 percent. The native vegetation is mainly pine needle-
grass, Junegrass, muttongrass, streambank wheatgrass, bluebunch
wheatgrass, low rabbit brush and big sagebrush. The mean annual
air temperature is 36 to 39 degrees F. and frost-free season is 30
to 40 days.
A representative profile would have a surface layer of pale
brown sandy loan about 6 inches thick. The subsurface is brown
heavy sandy loam about 4 inches thick. The upper subsoil is brown heavy
sandy loam. The middle subsoil is light olive brown sandy clay loam
about 24 inches thick. The underlying material is light yellowish
brown sandy loam.
Capability units for this series, according to the SCS, are
VIe-3 for nonirrigated and VIe-9 for irrigated.
Permeability is moderate and the high available water
• RECEIVED
M-1 JUL 9 1981
MINED LAND RECLAMATION • COAE
COLO DE7i.
