NOV-20-1996 13 06 GRRND URLLEY CORL CO 303 856 0344 P.01
~: 4 - 20
4.2.7 Surface Water Monitoring Program
A water quality monitoring program has been established W monitor the effect of mining
activities, Portions of this monitoring program, as well as the ground water monitoring program,
described in Section 4.2.4 will cover both the Munger Canyon and McClane Canyon mines which
operate in close proximity to one another in the same major watershed. Locations of all surface
water monitoring sites are sh~ on Flgureo .2 2.
The quantity of flow at 5W 1 and SW-8 will be measured quarterly, contingent upon the
availability of water. In response to a request made by the Division to begin monitoring flow at
SW8, the location of SW8 has been relocated tiD the bridge at Munger Road effective June
1996. Grand Valley has examined the creek channel closer to the south end of the permit area
for locations to monitor flow. No good locations were found. AgricuRural activrdes for water
diversion make establishmerrt of a sample station impossible wdhout recalibration of the she
continually. Flow rating charts for both bridges have been developed to ensure consistence of
flow measurements. Flow measurements will also be taken at 5W-2 in McClane Creek below
the mine site. The measurements will ideally be taken twice a year if water is available to
sample. Measurements will be taken once during spring snow melt and once during a storm
everrt. Flow rating charts for both East Salt Creek and for the culvert at SW-2 are presented as
~ ~ ` Table 4.2-14.
Water quality samples of East 5aR Creek will be collected quarterly. Water quality will be
monitored at sites SW1 and SW-8 as shown on Figure 4.2-2. Water quality samples will also
be taken at Sites SW2 and SW-5 twice a year; once during spring snow melt and once during a
storm event (spring or summer). Table 4.2-13 shows the results of the April, 1981 laboratory
analyses from East Salt Creek monitoring locations SW-1 and 5W-4 which are indicated on
Figure 4.2.2. All wat4Rgamples will be analyzed for parameters, as noted in Tabk: 4-2-15. The
results of all monithring will be submitted to the Regulatory Authority immediately following
receipt of analytical results.
• During periods of temporary cessation ,the monitoring program will be modified as follows.
Water quality samples will tie taken quarterly from sites SW 1 and 5W-8. Water quality samples
will be taken twice a year at site SW2; once during spring snow meR and once during a storm
event. Samples will be analyzed for those parameters listed on Table 4.2.15. The quantity of
flaw will be measured at SW-1, SW2 and SW-8 when samples are collected.
r, M` Volume 1 11 - 20 - 96
V
- -- ... _ .
