TRAPPER MINING iNC.
III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
p- 999
CERTIFIED #P546405468
April 22, 1991
APR 2 4 T991
Ms. Kathy Dolan
Colorado Dept. of Health
Water Quality Control Division
4210 East 11th Ave.
Denver, CO 80220
Dear Ms. Dolan:
Subject: Change in Colorado Wastewater Discharge Permit
CO-0032115 -Trapper Mining loc., for Trapper Mine.
Trapper Mine is requesting an additional NPDES discharge point to our current NPDES system. During
late spring/summer of 1991, Trapper will begin construction of a single sediment pond located in the Far
East Buzzard drainage. The pond will provide sediment control for mining, regrading and topsoil replace-
ment activities commencing in 1991 in the Far East Buzzard drainage area. As proposed, the discharge pond
(NPDES) will not require wet sampling as no pit-generated water will be discharged into the drainage sys-
tem. Additionally the construction of this pond will eliminate Trapper's only remaining small area exemp-
tion from sediment control.
The new discharge point, 014, is located immediately south of our permit boundary in Far East Buzzard
drainage. The proposed pond location is in the SW 1/4 of SW 1/4, Section 28, T6N, R91W. The attached
map "Drainage Divides of ifie Mine Plan Area and Location of Current Surface Water Sites" (M30A) shows
the location of the proposed discharge point and all other NPDES points at Trapper Mine. The design
capacity (or the Far East Buzzard pond is 0.07 million gallons with a 10 year, 24 hour equivalent volume of
0.26 million gallons. The discharge from this site is the Yampa River.
We request the discharge location become active upon completion of sediment pond construction. Trapper
will submit a technical revision to CMLRD, with appropriate hydrologic information, for their approval.
We will notify you when construction commences, of construction completion, and of any proposed dis-
charge into this drainage,
Please contact me if you require additional information or have any questions. Thanks for your assistance in
our current permit re-authorization.
Sincerely,
William Agnew
Sr. Environmental Engineer
WA/jb
[CDOHWPR22j
Mined
'~ecfamation plvson
Enclosure
c J.M.
