r~ <br />u <br />PINELLI SERIES <br />• <br />Taxonomic Classification: Fine, mont;norillonitic (calcareous) family of <br />Borollic Haplargids. <br />Setting: Pinelli soils are on a few small footslopes below claystone and shale <br />ridges. They have formed in clayey, calcareous alluvium. Slopes era 2 to 5 <br />percent. <br />General Characteristics: Pinelli soils are well-drained with slow permeability <br />and rapid runoff. Vegetation is primarily western whaatgrass, cheatgrass, and <br />saltbush with a few scattered big sagebrush. <br />Rangy in Characteristics: Textures are clay loam, clay and silty clay with <br />35 to 50 percent clay. Coarse fragment content is 0 to 15 percent with <br />accumulations of visible secondary calcium carbonate below about 30 inches. <br />Reaction is moderately alkalins with alkalinity increasing with depth. Depth <br />to bedrock is greater than 40 inches. <br />Type Location: 400 cast of the northwest corner of Section 27, t2N, R101a1. <br />Pit number 17. <br />• <br />
