C~ <br />I. SJIL ASSESS;dENf <br />1. INIRJDUCTION <br />A soil survey was conducted on the permit area from July to IJovamber of 19dJ. <br />Detailed and semi-detailed mapping, sampling and description of soils were <br />performed to provide soils baseline information. This baseline information <br />supplies the necessary data L'o formulate a sound program of topsoil removal, <br />replacement and revegetation on the Deserado permit area. <br />Existing infor.nation was used where possible and in conformance with present <br />standards. This survey supersedes all previous soil assessments on the per.nit <br />~• area. <br />2. JBJECTIVES <br />Pre-mining assessments of "topsoil" materials era a necessary prerequisite to <br />analyzing the impact of soil surface disturbances. These assessments provide <br />a basis for designing the methods for proper removal, handling, and replacement <br />of topsoil materials. fhe overall ai.n is to rsstorz inherent soil properties <br />relevant to sustained plant growth and adequate yields.
