114 - Moyerson-Rock Outcrop complex, 10 to 30 percent slopes.
This complex occurs on ridgetops and sideslopes at intermediate elevations
and developed from fine-textured calcareous residuum primarily from shah . It
is comprised of about 65 percent Moyerson soils and 25 percent rock outcrop.
Small areas of Redcreek and Rentsac were included in mapping. Red creek soils
are shallow and loamy. Rentsac soils are shallow and loamy-skeletal. 'These
included soils occupy about 10 percent of the unit.
The Moyerson soil is shallow, calcareous, and well-drained. In a typical
profile, the surface layer is light yellowish brown about 2 inches thick. The
subsurface soil is light yellowish brown channery loam about 5 inches thick.
The substratum is pale brown calcareous channery silty clay about 14 inches thick
and is underlain with fractured, interbedded sandstone, loamstone, and shale
• at a depth of 14 inches.
The Moyerson soil has moderately slow to slow permeability and medium to
moderately rapid runoff. 'Tha erosion hazard is low to moderate from wind and
moderate to high from water. Available waterholding capacity is moderate.
EfFective rooting depth is 10 to 20 inches.
The rock outcrop is primarily exposed shale, siltstone and claystone bedrock
which is calcareous, brown to yellow and fractured. Included with rock outcrop
are very shallow, skeletal soils adjacent to exposed bedrock.
This soil is used for livestock grazing and wildlife habitat. The vegetation
is primarily mixed perennial grasses, sparse big sagebrush and some areas of
cheatgrass.
The average depth of suitable topsoil material is 6 inches. This material
• is rated poor to fair with suitability decreasing with depth.
