<br />112 - Satanka silt loan, 3 to 10 percent slopes. <br />'The Satanka soil is moderately deep and wall-drained. It developed from <br />locally derived calcareous alluvium with more than 35 percent fines and coarser <br />on upland fans and lee sideslopes. Small areas of Potts soils and shallow, loamy <br />Torriorchents were included in mapping. Potts soils are deep to bedrock. 'The <br />Torriorthents soils are shallow and undeveloped. 'These soils occupy about 10 <br />percent each of the mapping unit. <br />In a typical profile, the surface layer is pale brown silt loam about 3 <br />inches thick. The upper subsoil is light yellowish brown loan about 9 inches <br />thick. Tha lower soil is very pale brown calcareous loan about 12 inches thick <br />and is underlain with very pale brown calcareous loan to a depth of 31 inches. <br />The Satanka soil has moderate permeability and mediwn runoff. The erosion <br />• hazard is low to moderate from water and moderate to nigh from wind. Available <br />water holding capacity is moderately high. Effective rooting depth is 20 to 40 <br />inches. <br />This soil is used for livestock grazing and wildlife habitat. 'The vegetation <br />is primarily big sag=brush and .nix ad perennial grasses with areas of chaatgrass. <br />The average depth of suitable topsoil malarial is 30 inches. Tha ;naterial <br />is rated fair to good with suitability decreasing with depth. <br />• <br />
