<br />REDCREEK SERIES <br />Taxonomic Classification: Loamy-nixed (calcareous), frigid family of Lithic <br />Ustorthents. <br />Setting: Redcreak soils are on ridgetops and sideslop_s. 'They have formed <br />in residuum derived from loamstone and thinly interbedded sandstone and shale. <br />Slopes are 6 to 20 percent. <br />General Characteristics: Redcreek soils are well-drained with moderately rapid <br />to rapid permeability and slow to medium runofF. Vegetation is primarily big <br />sagebrush, juniper and nixed perennial grasses and annual plants, mainly <br />cheatgrass. <br />Range in Characteristics: Textures are loam, sandy loam and silt loam with <br />• 10 to 20 percent clay. Coarse fragment contznt is 0 to 20 percent with <br />accumulations of visible secondary calcium carbonate below about 5 to d inches. <br />Reaction is moderately alkaline through. Depth to bedrock is 10 to 20 inches. <br />Type Location: 250 feet east, 600 feet south of the northwest corner of Section <br />22, T2N, R101,J. Pit number 15, additional pit number 11. <br /> <br />
