REDCREEK SERIES
Taxonomic Classification: Loamy-nixed (calcareous), frigid family of Lithic
Ustorthents.
Setting: Redcreak soils are on ridgetops and sideslop_s. 'They have formed
in residuum derived from loamstone and thinly interbedded sandstone and shale.
Slopes are 6 to 20 percent.
General Characteristics: Redcreek soils are well-drained with moderately rapid
to rapid permeability and slow to medium runofF. Vegetation is primarily big
sagebrush, juniper and nixed perennial grasses and annual plants, mainly
cheatgrass.
Range in Characteristics: Textures are loam, sandy loam and silt loam with
• 10 to 20 percent clay. Coarse fragment contznt is 0 to 20 percent with
accumulations of visible secondary calcium carbonate below about 5 to d inches.
Reaction is moderately alkaline through. Depth to bedrock is 10 to 20 inches.
Type Location: 250 feet east, 600 feet south of the northwest corner of Section
22, T2N, R101,J. Pit number 15, additional pit number 11.
