CHIMNEY ROCK COAL
Hydrologic Investigations
Chimney Rock Coal undertook a rather comprehensive hydrologic
sampling program in October 1980. The purpose of the program
was to obtain 12 months of surface and ground water quality
data. The program was completed during the first week of
October 1981.
In order to typify surface water characteristics, two sampling
points were installed on Stollsteimer Creek. One was
placed upstream from the surface mining operation. The
other was placed downstream from the operation. Ground
water quality has been described through the installation
and subsequent analysis of waters from numerous water wells.
Analysis performed on a continuous monthly basis included
measurement of field parameters, including pN, alkalinity,
conductivity and temperature. Stream flow and depth to
ground water was also recorded on a monthly basis. Chemical,
physical and trace metal levels were measured every quarter.
The locations' of the monitoring points are depicted on the
Hydrology Map included in the permit application. A table
which describes the work performed at each station is also
included. The results of the sampling program follow the
table described above.
