<br />• <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br />At [he request of Fred Samson of Utah International, Inc., <br />Archeological Services undertook a Class III archeological inventory <br />of portions of the proposed Trapper Mine project area in northwestern <br />Colorado. The survey area consists of approximately 5,583 acres of <br />land, including portions of the following 24 sections in Moffat <br />County, Colorado (Fig,l): <br />TSN-R90W: Sec.4, 5, 6, 7, <br />T6N-R90W: 8ec,29, 30, 31, <br />TSN-R91:d: Sec.l, 3, 5, 10 <br />T6N-R91W: Sec.21, 25, 26, <br />8, 9 <br />32 <br />27, 28, 29, 32, 33, 34, 36 <br />The survey area is located mainly on the northern slopes of the <br />Williams Fotk Mountains beginning four miles south of Craig. <br />Approximately three sections of the survey area are located on <br />the southern side of the Williams Fork Mountains (Fig,2). <br />Field work commenced on June 23, 1980 and continued until August 5, <br />1980. Following the Eield work, analysis and report preparation began. <br />The field work was performed by Glen P. Herrell, Pat Persinger, and <br />Marvin Floodman who were periodically assisted by Les Harville and <br />Tom Babcock, All were under the supervision of Carlos F. Caraveo, <br />Field Director, <br />A total of five prehistoric sites, one historic site, and eighteen <br />prehistoric isolates were recorded. The prehistoric sites include <br />three lithic scatters, a rock shelter, and a pictograph and petroglyph <br />site. At the special request of Mr. Fred Samson of Utah International, <br />Inc., a previously recorded historical site was also mapped and <br />photographed. <br />Two other major archeological surveys were made on the same property, <br />one by David Breternitz and the other by The Laboratory of Public <br />Archeology. Most of the land included in this survey is adjacent to <br />the area surveyed by Breternitz (Fig,3). Figures 1 and 3 are enclosed <br />in envelope at end of [he report. <br />1 <br />
