section the slope, aspect, elevation, soil, topography, water sources
and vegetation information were recorded. The cesearch and management
section included the record of the details of the field work, recommendations,
and the research potential and/or significance.
The Architectural/Historical Component Form was used to record
details on the one historical site located within the survey area. The
form is divided into sections on the site integrity, site description,
cultural activities, significance, and references. The descriptive
portion included a description of the materials, architectural style,
and special features and/or surroundings as well as a dating and
analysis of the archeological potential.
Isolated Finds:
The eighteen isolated finds were recorded on Isolated Find Record
forms provided by the Colorado Office of the State Archeologist. The
record included locational, archeological, environmental, and reference
data.
The collection policy followed was determined by the contractual
agreement. In general, collection was done only where in-depth evaluative
work was done (SP1F946 and SMF947). This work was performed at the
instruction of the Principal Investigator upon a request for this work
by Utah International. These sites were totally surface collected.
The sites were gridded and shovel tested.
• However, in other cases, certain items were collected. In the
case of isolates and localities, diagnostic cultural material was
collected because the chances of an archeologist being able to relocate
such an item would be slim. This is not the case with defined sites
which, because of the nature of their importance, were staked and
their perimeters defined. This staking serves as a means of relocating
the site and "legally" establishing restraints on any kind of surface
disturbing activities prior to site mitigation.
For specific recommendations, see the individual locality and
isolate forms in the Cultural Resource Records section.
•
18
