The second main vegetation unit is the intermediate Sagebrush
communities, where sagebrush is intermixed with grasses at the edges
of Grassland areas and in small clearings at high elevations. These
sagebrush communities "contain big sagebrush with an understory of
wheatgrasses and Indian ricegrass (Arthur and Jennings 1977: 5)."
•
EAST END OF SEC.32-T6N-R90W WHERE THE POWERLINE FEEDS
THE MAIN PLANT. TAKEN AT THE EDGE OF THE GRASSLANDS AREA
SHOWN IN PHOTOS NUMBERS 6 AND 8 ABOVE. TYPICAL OF THE
INTERMEDIATE SAGEBRUSH COMMUNITY. (FI1779597, Ell9)
The third unit is the Mountain Shrub community. This community
"consists of a dense stand of shrub growth including big sagebrush,
serviceberry, bitterbrush, rabbitbrush, and Gamble's Oak. At times
this growth becomes very dense, but in some cases is fairly open with
grasses and forbes as an understory (Arthur and Jennings 1977: 5)."
This Mountain Shrub community occurs throughout much of the
survey area, especially on the rolling hills immediately north of the
Williams Fork Mountains. The shrub growth within the area varies from
sparse with grasses to very dense.

14
