~~~ II~I~~~~~I~~~I~~
Division of Minerals and Geology
April 4, 1999
1313 Sherman
Room 215
Denver. CO 80203
Dear Division of Minerals and Geology:
:~.~
~ m~i~~'
DECEIVED
APR 0 7 1999
.:,,,:a or Minerals 8 Ge010QY
I am writing in regards to a proposed gravel crushing operation at Soaring Eagle Ranch,
1972 Broadway in Grand Junction .
I own a house in the Independence Valley subdivision not far from the proposed gravel
crushing operation. 1 am opposed to the proposed project for several reasons. First, we
built our house in Independence Valley seeking privacy and quietness. I can not imagine
a gravel crushing operation not adding a substantial amount of noise to the surrounding
area. Second, the proposed project does nothing to support or increase existing property
value. If anything it would be looked at as a negative influence on the surrounding area.
Third, 1 don't know how Grand Junction and/or Mesa County could overlook the
potential traffic problem. Broadway is a two-lane road and already the traffic on this
road is a problem. It will only get worse with the amount of growth our area is
experiencing. A commercial project with trucks carrying gravel on Broadway will in all
likely hood make the traffic situation near unbearable.
I was very shocked to hear that a commercial enterprise could be located in this area.
There are numerous areas in Mesa County that commercial businesses could be together
leaving residential areas alone.
Sincerely,
George D. Gromke, D.O.
Cc.
Linda Laycock
2027 Baseline Drive
Grand Junction, CO 81503
