Twentymile Coal Company
29515 Routt County Road # 27
Oak Creek, Colorado 80467
RECEI!/ED
April 27, 2005
Mr. Jeff Coombe
Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment
Water Quality Control Division -Permits and Enforcement
4300 Cherry Creek Drive South
Denver, CO 80222-1530
MAY 0 3 2005
Division of Minerals & Geology
RE: PERMIT CO-0042161; 1ST QUARTER 2005 DMR SUBMITTAL
Dear Mr. Coombe:
Please find enclosed the above referenced discharge monitoring reports for the period from January 1,
2005 through March 31, 2005, for Outfalls OO1A (site 115), 002A (300E), and 3001. Note that Outfall
001A did not discharge in January, discharged only during the first two weeks in February, and
discharged only during the last two weeks in March. Outtalls 002A and 3001 flowed each week of the
period. One exceedance was noted. The 30 day average limit (35 mg/I) for total suspended solids
(TSS) was exceeded by 5 mg/I at Outfall 001A in February. Note that flow at this Outfall was limited.
One sample was collected the first week in February. By the time sample results were received the
Outfall had stopped flowing, and would not flow again until 5 weeks later in March. Thus, no other
samples could be collected in February to obtain a truer average for that month. Note that the TSS
concentration for March was only 7 mg/I. Also note that this Outfall does not have a history of
exceeding this parameter.
A Quarterly Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) test was collected for Outfall 001 W in March 2005. This test
indicated that the effluent was not acutely toxic to Daphnia magna survival. A copy of the WET Test
Report Form is attached.
Please contact me directly at (970) 870-2750 with any questions.
,~. ~ !~/~a~~
Brian A.
