Geatechnld /Environmental EnElneadnE • Matertalc
]anuary 20,2006
Twentymile Coal Company
29515 County Road 27
Oak Creek, CO 80467
Attn: Mike Berdine
Job Number: OS-6818
Subject: GeotechnicalInvestigation,Proposed
South Haul Road, Foidel Creek Mine, Routt
County, Colorado.
Gentlemen:
As requested, NWCC, Inc. has completed this Geotechnical Investigation to investigate the subsurface conditions
along the proposed South Haul Road alignment, as well as to provide recommendations regarding the site grading
and possible grave] pavement section alternatives for the new roadway to be constructed south of County Road 27
and at the Foidel Creek Mine in Routt County, Colorado. The approximate location of the project site is shown in
tht attached Figure #1.
Prooo<ed Construction: It is our understanding that the South Haul Road Option #1 will consist of approximately
2,900 feet of new two-lane roadway [hat will along the south side of County Road 27. Option #2 will consist of the
improvement of approximately 1,200 fee[ of existing roadway located neaz the southeast end of Option #1. The
road will be used for heavy haul truck access from the mine to County Road 27 and will be subject to very heavy
loading conditions. Based on our observations of the proposed alignment, it appears that cuts up to 5 feet and 511
slopes up to ] 0 feet in height may be required to develop the roadway.
Site Conditions: The project site for Option #1 generally consists of vacant land located along the south side of
County Road 27. The proposed alignment roughly parallels the south side of County Road 27, near and sometimes
within the toe of the existing roadway fill slope. The topography of the site is variable and generally slopes gently
to strongly down to the south and west.
Option #2 consists of an existing grave]-surfaced roadway located south of County Road 27 and east of the east end
of the Option #1 alignment. The topography of the site is similar to that of Option #1. Both sites are similarly
vegetated with grasses, weeds and sagebrush.
• (970) 879.7888 • Fex (970) 878.7891
2580 Copper Ridge Drive • Steamboat Springs, CO 80487
