_ .~- ~ _ _
-~- ~~, ~ ~
GEC 2 i 1977
_ December 17, 19]7
0010 i)B7i. 9 .i1~f31 P.cSO^fC05
THE EDITOR:
'TRE SCAR' -Double It's Size ???
I~I IIIIIIIIIIIIII~I
- -~.__~
I was pleased to see S. Michel's letter ( ). :'e s, this
is the 11th hour if you want to help preserve our Front Range fron further
raping by the Castle Concrete Company.
The aforementioned company is appling for a permit to increase the: present
30 acres of Queen's Canyon Quarry to 72 acres. That's right, an ~.dditional
42 acres, which is more than doubling the size of 'The Scar'.
Our (?) City Council doesn't seem concern. I haven't seen or heard one make
a stand against further devastation of our Front Range. But, a more important
question is: What do YOU want ???
Do you want to see 'The Scar' increase by 140 % by the year 2032 -?? Are you
~• concerned of the precedent this might set (after all, there's alsc Pikeview
Quarry to the north, and Snyder Canyon in Manitou) ??? If you don't care, well
just continue with keeping yourself busy with all this Roliday adc, and don`t
show up at December's 21st (Wednesday) public hearing at 9 a. m., a.t Centennial
Hall, corner of S. Cascade and Vermijo. If you do care, show up at the meet-
ing and bring a friend. Also, why not take the next 30 minutes of your time
and convey YOUR feelings to the:
s.
Colorado Mine Land Reclamation Board
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203.
Better yet, send a letter to the Editor with a copy to the Board. It's not
too late, for the final decision on expansion of the present quarries won't
be until January 2, 1978. Come on Coloridians, how about a Christmas present
for good ole Colorado Springs ??? Use the next 30 minutes to write that
letter -- Don't put it off, for it won't get done. It's up to YOU::: You do
care, don't you ???
T. C.
