""loss poe slejam
W la eolsln10
W 6 Z 8nw
C13A1333,V
'. t. ' . f • ff Rl
GEryrEFTA.L CVa7EG
1. The Contractor is responsible for preparing a sequencing plan for all fill placement for accept-
ance by the Engineer. No contiguous vertical joints between fill sections are allowed. The
minimum horizontal stagger length between joints is 100 feet. The parameters for allowing
joints and staggered fill sections in the embankment are sbpes no more than 4:1 for con-
necting fills and no difference in height of 5 feet between fill sections are allowed. All
joints between fill sections shall be connected together with clean fresh material. An existing
fill section shall be cut down to fresh material, scarified and moistened to allow a tight
interface with new fill.
2. The topsoil on the entire site shall be stripped and stockpiled for later use. No material shall
be placed in any portion of the embankment until the foundation for each section has been
dewatered stripped.- ...1carified and _ compacted, and has been approved by the contracting
authority. Refer to Fulton Lakes Pit Des- 'ar3!!!P.enert for foundation requirements.
3. Clay fill material in interior dike shall have a minimpercent of clay fines passing the
United States Standard No. 200 sieve of no less than 5 by dry weight and shall have a
plasticity index of 10 percent or greater for the portion of material passing a United States
Standard No. 40 sieve. Cobbles and rock fragments havitg maximum dimensions of more
than 6 inches shall not be placed in clay earthfill. Please refer to Fulton Lakes Pit Design
Report "Embankment Specifiations and Testing Requirements" for details.
4. Random fill material shall consist of a reasonably well - graded pervious mixture of fines, sand,
gravel, and cobbles. No cobbles and boulders larger than 6 inches in maximum dimensions
may be embedded in the fill and must be removed from the fill prior to placement.
5. All reservoir liner fill shall be compacted to a minimum of 95% ASTM- D698 -78 Standard
Proctor Density at 1% below to 2% above optimum moistur3 content. Materials not meeting
the specified moisture content will be scarified and recompacted until material meets specifi-
cations. No frozen material is allowed to be used as fill.
6. Each lift of fill will be put in at a maximum of 9 inch loose lifts. Each lift of fill shall be
scarified to allow proper bonding between lifts,
7. All Zone 1 material in interior dike embankment shall consist of processed clay shale from the
reservoir bottom that is broken down into a uniform plastic clay. Air slaking and prewetting
of the clay shale material is recommended prior to placing nto the embankment. All Zone 1
material shall be compacted to 95% of ASTM D- 698 -78 Staidard Proctor Density at 1% below
to 2% above optimum moisture. Any non - uniform lifts or lifts improperly tied to preceding
lifts will be removed, reprocessed and recompacted to speciications.
8. All Zone 2 material in the interior dike embankment shal consist of overburden materials
similar to those used in the liner embankment. All Zone 2 material shall be compacted to
95% of ASTM D- 698 -78 Standard Proctor Density at 1% belav to 2% above optimum moisture.
Any non - uniform lifts or lifts improperly tied to preceding ifts will be removed, reprocessed
and recompacted to specifications.
9. The vertical lift difference between Zone 1 and 2 materials stall be no more than 2 feet dur-
ing construction. Please refer to the Fulton Lakes Pit Design Report for placement specifications.
10. All bedrock shall be covered between shifts, or every 12 hours, with a minimum of two lifts.
11. A mimimum of one test per every 1000 cubic yards of naterial compacted in place or a
minimum of 3 tests per lift, whichever is more.
12. The owner will provide quality control testing during the project. The contractor will be
responsible for notifying the quality control engineer forty eight (48) hours in advance of
required testing.
13. The owner will not be liable for any delays caused by the Contractor not providing adequate
notice to the quality control engineer.
14. An 815 or equivalent sheepsfoot roller shall be used fo, compacting efforts. A gang -disk
or equivalent equipment shall be used for scarification betireen embankment lifts. Compactive
effort is only one part of the standards for embankment construction. Process is important
to achieve interlocked lifts with no stratified layers of dry and wet material.
15. Horizontal and vertical control by Epp & Associates, Inc. Project benchmark located as noted
on grading plan.
16. If the Contractor finds any conflicts in this set of plans or is unclear about the construction
procedure, the design engineer shall be notified immediately, and clarification requested, in
writing.
CCCs[JC
tQ
C -F —C: I.: [::E
,5 - , 1:H
11qED F11 I E
t._
L=
F r r r I T_ a [_Y
F 1GF
fik D
7 R' 2 Ri R; F\ _F G - Ci 7 Wf
CCLCr CL_ClzD G
Qct;afser fTCT'[
f Vi,.
%o
I
i
/
AV E. rs'
li ` L•
f ,ry
I _ell, ri
 •l' t ' i ,i % Ilnxeltine
' 9 s,T
Pdr
a
i wl: yi r ali Hazeltine l ru
y 1......_ C.I1e1 htn :4`a
52 l'
t,
I z i i
T2 S.
h
18 Rio ti I __ n i I ! ' i,• i
' {soar
Mdye_ Honig - D
sr .
