Facilities such as roads and sediment ponds that are not approved as elements of the
postmining land use plan must be-scheduled for the reclamation. Additional information regarding the
timing of reclamation activities may be found in the Tabs which discuss the components of the
reclamation plan. For example, seeding periods are specifically discussed in Tab 22, Revegetation Plan.
Exhibit 20-1 identifies the limits of disturbance.
Timing of Reclamation Activities
A generalized timetable of reclamation activities is shown in Figure 19-1. The timetable outlines the
sequence and timing of each major phase of reclamation. It is not possible to precisely specify the
timing of each reclamation phase in each mining area bldck- for the following reasons: 111 variables
such as customer demand for coal, coal quality, overburden characteristics and manpower and
equipment availability affect the rate of progress of mining activities; and 121 variables such as
• manpower and equipment availability, weather conditions and season, the availability of materials, and
the sequence or rate of mining advance affect the progress of grading, topsoiling and seeding in the
mining area.
,!
Site clearing is performed immediately prior to topsoil removal in a given area. Clearing includes
removal of woody or other materials which could interfere with topsoil removal, or potentially
contaminate topsoil. Site clearing and topsoil salvage operations ITab 211 are typically conducted from
May to November. These activities may be conducted in other months if weather conditions permit

,.~.~ Backfilling and grading activities ITab 201 are performed throughout the year.
