• SOIL PROFILE DESCRIPTION - BACA SERIES
The Baca series consists of deep, well drained soils on uplands. These
soils formed in calcareous loess. Slope is 1 to 3 percent. The average
annual precipitation is 13 to 15 inches, and the average annual air
temperature is 50 to 54 degrees F.
Typical pedon of Baca loam, 1 to 3 percent slopes, 2,400 feet south and
2,200 feet west of the northeast corner of Section 7, T. 28 S., R. 65 W.
A1-0 to 3 inches; brown (lOYR 5/3) loam, dark brown (10 YR 3/3) moist;
weak very fine granular structure; soft, very friable, slightly sticky
and slightly plastic; neutral; clear smooth boundary.
B1--3 to 6 inches; brow (lOYR 5/3) clay loam, dark yellowish brown
(lOYR 3/4) moist; moderate medium subangular blocky structure; slightly
hard, very friable, slightly sticky and sllghtly plastic; neutral; clear
• smooth boundary.
B21t--6 to 11 inches; yellowish brown (lOYR 5/4) clay loam, dark yel-
lowish brow (lOYR 4/4) moist; moderate medium prismatic structure
parting to moderate fine blocky; hard, friable, sticky and plastic; thin
continuous clay films on ped faces; mildly alkaline; clear wavy
boundary.
B22tca--11 to 23 inches; light yellowish brown (lOYR 6/4) silty clay
loam, yellowish brown (lOYR 5/4) moist; moderate coarse prismatic struc-
ture parting to strong medium blocky; hard friable, sticky and plastic;
thin contiaous clay films on vertical faces of ped s; few fine and medium
distinct filaments and soft masses of lime; calcareous; mlldly alkaline;
gradual wavy boundary.
