We have several concerns t~s may iatpact how the final reclamati~ plan is
developed and ®plementod. We have not seen the final docent spelling out how the pit will be
developed u we have baud ottr cammeats on oar ktwwledge of the area
1. How much water will be needed during Ne screening operation?
2. Is there as existing well Nat will be used or will a new well be drilled to serve the sand pit?
3. If a new well is drilled what will be Ne desired capacity and will Nis new wellunpact existing
wells M Ne area? Water in this paR of Et Paso County is very valuable for both home and
livestock consumption so it is critical Nat any new well drilled in Nis arcs will not impart existing
wells. We would also havo some concerns if Ne new well is in the alluvia! aquifer in this aces.
4. Will the rechmtadon of the pit be dime concurrently? We would oppose arty plan where large
scene of Iand arc denuded of vegetation for any lettgN of time.
5. Are fhe reseeding recommendations going to include mtive seeding varieties or wiI(Ne planned
Plantings be introduced grasses?
6. A weed management program needs to be developed for this parcel of lead. 77re strrroundiag area
is mamty reaches and we would not weal Ne disaubed lead to be an area where noxious weeds
could become established dtrrhrg the mining operation. Since many of the haul trtteks will operate
in areas of the county Hutt have noxious weeds, transported weed seeds that germinate in Ne area
will need to be sprayed.
7. Oaae dre pct is opened uP and operaring the material removed will expose soils that have rapid
infiltration rates that reach into the alluvial aquifer. Will Nero be safeguards m place Nat will
prevent ground warm contamination in this area?
8. How long will the pit remain functional? If this is a Mug perm program intro Ne saadv over a long
period of time, revegetation wiE be axitical. if possible the district wouM like w review your
rcclamatioa plans.
Sincerety,
~.,,~ ~-~, -r-K
Duke Phillips, President
Central Colorado Coraurvation District
