Evaluation of Potential Impacts to Wetlands on the Sage Hill Farrn from the Proposed Nix Property Sand and Gravel Operation • Aerial Photographs dated October 2, 1991 and Mazch 15, 1969 (black and white, scale: 1 "=200' approximately). The proposed aggregate mine site, subject wetland on the Sage Hill Farm, and adjacent azeas were observed on August 2 and 14, 2001. At these times, observations were made on the vegetation, soils, and hydrology of the subject wetland, and on irrigation ditches, ponds and other water features in the azea. During the field trips, discussions were held with Ms. Cynthia Pazker, owner of the Sage Hill Farm, and other neighbors regazding irrigation and agricultural practices in the area. Piezomete,rs , Seven piezometers (MW-1 through MW-5, MW-7 and MW-]0) were installed on the Nix property and around the subject wetland on August 14 and 24, 2001. The locations of the piezometers are shown on Figure 2. The piezometers were installed using an auger drill rig and were completed with 2'/a-inch polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe. The piezometers were installed to a depth of 10 to 20 feet with the lowest five feet constructed of slotted casing. Five piezometers installed by David, Cooper on the Sage Hill Farm eazlier in the summer were also monitored (MW-6, MW-8, MW-9. MW-] 1 and MW-13). In addition, the domestic well at the house on the Sage Hill Farm (MW-12) was monitored. The top of casing of the piezometers and ground surface at tl:e piezometers were surveyed, and water levels read on the following days: August 14, August 29, September 7, September 14, and October 10, 2001. EVALUATION OF POTENTIAL IMPACTS ON WETLAND Water Sources for Wetland The, data and observations collected for this evaluation indicate that the subject wetland is sustained by both surface water and groundwater.
