13 <br />• The production means for the Ponderosa pine-oak reference area <br />are presented in Table 11. Canthonia oarryi had a mean production <br />value of 0.3 gms/m2. Perennial forbs, perennial grasses, cool season <br />grasses, Bouteloua curtipendula, Carex spp., Swertia radiata, Thalictrum <br />dasycarp~m and 7fialictrum fendleri all had mean production values of <br />0.1 oms/m2. The remaining species had mean production values of 0.03 <br />gms/m2 and less. The total mean herbaceous production for the site <br />was 1.02 gms/m2. <br />Density measurements for the Ponderosa pine-oak reference are <br />presented in Table 12. In the shrub category, ~uercus oambelii had a <br />mean density of 1.6/m2. Cercocarpus montanus had a mean density of <br />0.3/m2, Symphoricaroos oreoohilus had a mean density of 0.1/m2, and <br />Rosa vroodsii had a mean density of 0.03/m2, In the tree category, <br />• Pinus ponderosa had a mean density of 2.0/100m2, Pinus edulis had a <br />mean density of 1.3/100m2, and Juniperus sconulorum had a mean density <br />of 0.7/100m2. Juniperus scopulorum was the only Sapling encountered, <br />with a mean density of 0,3/100m2, Total mean density for the site/ <br />100m2 was 4.3, compared to 2.23/m2. <br />Danthonia oarryi was clearly a dominant species in the herba- <br />ceous component of the Ponderosa pine-oak reference area. Other <br />herbaceous dominants were Carex sp., perennial forbs, Thalictrum <br />fendleri, and Bouteloua curtipendula. Quercus oambelii was the domi- <br />Want shrub, Pinus ponderosa and Pinus edulis were dominant tree <br />species. Juniperus scopulorum :'as the only sapling encountered, so <br />~:ras a dominant in that category. <br />The tree and shrub dominants from the cover, production and <br />. density values clearly reflected the characteristics of a Ponderosa <br />
