CO. 80222-1530
Dear Ms. Kalamen:
__,~ 3 ,y,V~.
C`. ', -
Re: Discharge Monitoring Reports; NPDES Permit CO-0027154, Cvprus Yampa
Vallev Coal
Enclosed, please find the materials pertaining to the above-referenced DMRs for
DECEMBER of 1993. Only outfalts 001, 005, and 006 showed discharge during the
period in question. Outfalls 002, 003, 004, 007, 008, 009, 010, 016, and 017-
showed NO DISCHARGE. No exceedences were noted for the period, with the
exception of the report for Chronic WET testing for outfall 007 (due to no sample
collection as a result of no flow in December). As previously relayed to the
Department, the outfall in question discharged during a short period in November, at
which time an Acute sample was collected. It was anticipated that the required
Chronic sample could be collected in December once the Site 109 discharge was
routed fully to site 1 14, at which time it was anticipated that some overflow from the
109 discharge would be shunted into outfall 007 and result in flow. This routing took
place in early December, but the volumes discharged via site 109 to site 1 14 did not
result in any overflow to the pond, and as such the chronic sample could not be
collected. Due to the short timeframe associated with the November discharge, and
the collection of an Acute sample during that episode, we do not feel that it would
have been possible to collect a chronic sample at that time. CYVCC has modified the
sampling schedules associated with this outfall to address possible intermittent
discharges in the future, and the associated WET testing sample collections required.
Your continued assistance in this matter has been greatly appreciated. Should you
have any questions or comments, please contact either myself or Mr. Rick Mills at your
convenience.
Sincerely,
~
Marcus A.
