~ III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
099
United States Natural
Department of Resources
Agriculture Conservation
Service
•
1607 Pheasant Ridge
Sterling, CO 80751
(303) 522-7554
June 12, 1995
Richard Snook
Logan County Department of Planning and Zoning
Logan County Courthouse
Sterling, CO 80751
Dear Richard and Planning and Zoning Department:
I have examined the proposed DMG Gravel Pit Site: NW1/4 of
the SW1/4 of Section 11, Township 11 North, Range 52 West on June
12, 1995. The reclamation plan for this site is as follows:
Situation: The DMG Pit site is Gravel pit site is located east
along County road 45 with surrounding upland native rangeland
classified as a Gravel breaks and lower native rangeland
classified as Loamy plains range site. There is evidence of past
open excavation mining approximate 400 feet facing west to the
road. There is standing water in lower area below disturbed area
and three trees to the south with small pond of water. The site
is moderately sloping to moderately steep soil with Cattle
grazing the area at this time.
Soils: The DMG pit site consists of Dix-ECkley complex, map unit
25. The complex is a deep, well drained to excessively drained
gravelly soil on slopes of 5 to 25 percent.
Vegetation: The potential plant community on this site is 80-90%
grasses, 5-10% forbs, and 5-10% shrubs. Plants presently growing
include blue grama, western wheatgrass fescue and sand sage.
Reclamations: It should be evident not to destroy trees it at
all possible. It should be noted that once gravel mining is
initiated, all disturbed areas must be reclaimed.
Bite Preparation: Reclamation of the pit should be made by
smoothing all banks to no more that 2:1 slopes and should be
flatter where feasible and practicable. The topography should be
made smooth with no spoil piles or pits present.
TopsoilinQ: The current topsoil should be removed and reserved
to be used for reclamation. Topsoil should be spread uniformly
over the disturbed area to a packed depth of 6 inches. This
should be increased to 8" - 10" over exposed bedrock. In the
event that existing soils have insufficient depth, topsoil shall
be brought in and spread over the deficient areas.
