SEDIt1ENTA':ION POt]DS
SEDIh1ENT MONITORING PROGRAM
PURPOSE: To monitor the sediment accumulation, so sediment may
be removed as required by 30 CFR 817.46(h).
METHOD OF MONITORING:
1. Each pond is sized for a design sediment volume based on dis-
turbed acreage upstream.
2. Each pond varies in shape and size. The pond will be pro-
filed to calculate volume capacity. A distinct marking will show on
the dam's upstream face of the water level that corresponds to 60
percent of designed sediment volume.
3. Each pond will be inspected for sediment accumulation:
a, at least monthly,
b, after heavy rainfall, and
c. at times of heavy snow melt runoff.
4. The pond will be cleared of sediment using front-end load-
ers or bacY.hoes.
~l 5. Sediment will be disposed of in waste disposal area.
6. If it is determined that sediment accumulation has reached
the clean-out level but is under water, the pond will be drained so
sediment may be removed. Under no circumstances will water be
drained from the lowermost dam.
~J
