_ (ii) There are no present users of surface or groundwater whose rights to such
• water would be adversely affected by mining activities.
The rights of surface water users in the adjacent area to the Roadside permit
area will not be affected by underground mining operations and there will be no
surface operations.
Other than the mine, there are no beneficial users of groundwater in this permit
area or adjacent area. There is one shallow alluvial well approximately 3,000
feet southwest of the Roadside South portal area (see Figure 7-1, Tab Section
7, Benitendi Well Information), and one shallow alluvial well adjacent to the
Public Service Cameo Power Plant (see Figure 7-2, Tab Section 7). These
wells are outside the area of disturbance and outside the zone of drawdown.
Therefore, they will not be affected by mining.
• (iii) The quantity of surface and groundwater within the proposed permit area and
adjacent area will not be adversely affected by mining activities. Groundwater
removed from underground mine workings is clarified by allowing sufficient
settling time and returned to the Colorado River in compliance with NPDES
permit. The quantity of water discharged is insignificant with respect to average
river volume. Estimated quantities of water pumped from underground mine
workings, and flow quantities for the Colorado River are provided in Tab Section
7. The groundwater used in the mining operation is estimated in Table 7-2,
Tab Section 7. The amount of water not listed as mine discharge could be
depleted from groundwater recharge to or from the river.
Approximately 658 acre-feeVyear of mine discharge water is removed from
underground mine workings and discharged into the Colorado River, which is
flowing at a rate of 2.809 million acre-feet/year, increasing the flow, on the
average, 0.023 percent.
• 17-3 (Retype 12/16/96)
