<br /> <br />4) Further supporting the belief that no water ever issues from the slope itself is the fact <br />that the Western Gravel Metcalf Pit, located within 1f4 mile west of the proposed <br />operation, has mined the slope edge of the upper terrace and has created a highwall of <br />approximately 20 to 40 feet high in the gravel. Excavation below original ground has also <br />occurred to approximately 5 feet depth. No water has ever been seen emanating from the <br />highwall, although the 5 feet excavation at the bottom has uncovered groundwater which <br />had to be covered up as required by the permit. See enclosed photo of the mined highwall <br />on the next page. This further supports the claim that ground water simply never reaches <br />the upper portions of the upper terrace gravel. <br />
