COLORADO 81321
June 8, 1977
Colorado Mined land Reclamation
723 Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
ATPN: Rade Drell
SUBJEX.T: Water Resources -Craig Pit, Ia Plata County
Dear Mr. Drell:
Upon review of the letter dated May 23, 1977 fran the Division of
Water Resources, See offer the following comment concprnina our
proposed operation at the Craig Pit, south of Durango.
1. The bottom of excavation as shown on the reclamation
map is no lower than that of the existing pit which
shows no sign of ground watPS. Fluther more, the
floor of the proposed pit is above the top of the
well and the level of the ditch. No grourrl water
is expected to be encountered.
2. Fugitive dust is a problen on roads exceeding a traffic
count of 165 vehicles per day averaged over a 3 day
period. The only time this heavy of traffic £low is
expected would be during an adjacent major highway
project. In that case water (10,000 to 20,000 gal/day)
will be obtainable fraR project sources for dust abatanent.
For fugitive dust fmn rock crushers and asphalt plants,
a relatively small amount of water is required (approximately
5,000 gallons per day, less than 1 acre foot/year) aryl will
be purchased from the land owner or trucked from Durango.
3. As stated in the reclamation plan, no water is planned far
irrigation purposes.
-1-
"AN RQ~AL OPPO RT NNITY EMPLOYER"
V
