" The upper pad and road al er ative has an estimated total dismrbancc <br />of approx mtatek 1 69 acres, <br />Habitat conditions were assessed within an area encompassing the proposed shaft <br />location and access mote. Bird surveys were conducted in all habitat types found within <br />this area See Figure I. Surveys were conducted in each habitat type throughout the area <br />during three sampling periods. Surveys were conducted at approximately two�week <br />intervals from mid -May through early -June. <br />Because the shaft facilities and access and will necessitate the disturbance of a relatively <br />large area, surveys were conducted a considerable distance from the proposed shaft and <br />road locations. This is differeta than the usual method where bird survevs are conducted <br />in a 400 foot mum around a site In this case the survey included. I I an area along and <br />on both sides ofthe Deer Creek drainage for approximately', mile upstream from the <br />Junction with the Minnesota Creek Road. 21 h. mile up and downstream along Minnesota <br />Creek from the promised vent shaft site (npanan habitat along Minnesota Creek was <br />surveyed W the far bank)', 3) habitat south and west of the protect site for several hundred <br />vards.
