BANTA, Director
October 3, 1989
Mr. James Stover
B1~ Ribbon Coal Company
743 Horizon Court, Suite 205
Grand Junction, CO 81506
Dear Mr. Stover:
The following questions resulted from an examination of the new 100-year
culvert installation during the September 26, 1989 mine inspection:
Will the inlet be subject to any head?
2. The current inlet needs to be fortified by increasing the berm height
and improving the riprap.
3. The pine is laying on grade or is supported b_y a V ditch configuration.
How will this pipe behave when flowing full? Does this material lend
itself to unprotected installations successfully? Our concern. is that
it will tear itself apart during full flow since it is cur rentl_v
unrestrained. A copy of the manufacturer's specifications may indicate
appropriate use and installatio.^..
Please respond at your earliest convenience. As always, if you have any
questions, do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
(n~_ ^- •~~
~Q~J\ Matthew S. yes
I'" Reclamation Specialist
MSH/ern
Ol 90F
215 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
