•b
ek.:~ u.

6TH & Albert Straeta, Walaenburg, Colorado 81089
Vezzani Gravel Pit
November 1$, 1986
Mr. Loyd V. "Buck" Barnhart
3 Sedum Court
Pueblo, Colorado 81001
Dear Mr. Barnhart:
On Monday November 17a 1986 Lovis P. Vezzani and I field reviewed the 10.3
acre proposed addition to his permitted gravel git. This area wee mined for
gravel many years ago and left ae a nearly level pit floor. R;v information
and reeommeadatione on the reclamation of the site are as follovea
9oilas The soil on this general area was mapped as Sohamber-Midway Complox
3 to 2596 elopes. The area was mined for gravel some years ago
leaving a nearly level floor with a very thin Bandy, gravelly, stoney
material over a calcareous oley shale.
Shaniaa and Erosion Controls
No escavatioa or mining is proposed on the area. It x121 be used as
s location site for an asphalt plant and stockpiling of materiels
used in 3ta operation. When operations cease only a minor amount
of smoothing will be required. Wind erosion of the sandy surface materiel
is the mayor erosion hazard. It will be important to return the diaburbed
areas to vegetation as rapidly as possible when operations cease.
TopaoilinQ: There is no topsoil on the site. The topsoil disappeared during
the original gravel mining operation. There is a thin layer of sandy
material over the underlying clay ahala. Sines no mining is proposed on
this site ao stockpiling should be considered. The surface soil,
"topsoil", will remain the same ae ie prasentJ,y on the ground.
Mulchings At this location mulohing is highly recommended to improve grass
establishment. The site to be seeded should be mulched with 3000 to
4000 pounds of grass hay per acre, At least 50$ of the hay mulch should have
a leaf length of 10 Sashes or more and free of mold. The mulch material
ahoul:d bs disk anchored itt the soil.. - -
Seed Mix: Suggested Seed Min - Four species each making up 25$ of the mixture
-?the same mixture as will be used on the adjacent pit site):
Hatohita Blue grams .75 lbs. PLS/Ac.
Sand dropseed .125 ibs. PL3/Ao.
Critana Thiokepike~lkheatgrase 2.75 lbs. PLS/Ao.
Yellow Sweetclover (Innoculated) 1.75 lbs. PLS/Ac.
The above seed rates are for seed planted with a gresa drill. If the
area is broadcast seeded, double the seed rates.
Continued
