PART C <br />GROUND-WATER SAMPLING PROCEDURES <br />Permit Section 4.8.5.2 presents Trapper's ground-water monitoring program. Table 4.8-13a shows the <br />ground-water monitoring schedule, while Table 4.8-13 lists the ground-water quality parameters to be <br />monitored. The following discussion provides the guidelines to be followed to obtain required ground-water <br />information. <br />Water-Level Measurements <br />A. The static water level for all wells will be measured prior to sampling with the exception of <br />well GD-1(2) because this well is pumped routinely for operational use. Static water-level <br />readings are converted to feet above mean sea level by using the elevation of the <br />measuring point. <br />Some of the wells at the Trapper site are flowing wells. The shut-in static pressure is used <br />to obtain the static water-level elevation for these sites. The pressure is converted into <br />feet of water above the measuring point and added to the measuring point elevation to <br />obtain the static water-level elevation. <br />Monitoring <br />A. Site measurements of temperature, pH and specific conductance (SPCO) are taken at <br />each site during the sampling of the well. Since these measurements are taken at the well <br />head there is no holding time for sample analysis. The field parameters that were <br />measured just prior to collecting the sample are used along with laboratory analysis for a <br />particular well. <br />• B. A pump volume of a minimum of three casing volumes will be produced from each well <br />except in poor producing wells where samples are taken after the field parameters are <br />stable. If bail samples have to be used, the bailer will be rinsed with distilled water, <br />samples will be collected from the casing perforated interval and the first bail volume will <br />be discarded. <br />C. After field measurements are taken and the proper volume of water is produced from the <br />well, samples are taken from the discharge stream. Sample bottles, which do not contain <br />a preservative from the lab, will be rinsed with the discharge water prior to filling the <br />sample bottle. The samples obtained for lab analysis parameters are outlined in Table 4.8- <br />13. <br />Samples are refrigerated until shipped to the lab. During shipment, samples are iced and <br />held in coolers. In order to meet the recommended EPA holding times, samples must be <br />received wfthin 48 hours of the time that the samples were taken. <br />Guidelines, as outlined by the lab, are followed as to the number of bottles to be filled, <br />samples to be preserved, storage, etc. Chain of Custody fomu, provided by the lab, are <br />filled out and handling instructions are followed. <br />III. Monitoring Equipment <br />See Appendix O, XXIV, Part A for discussion of the monitoring equipment to be used. <br />IV. Sampling Schedule <br />• The wells at the Trapper site will be sampled on a semiannual basis for water quality. Water <br />levels will be measured on a quarterly basis. The first qualdy sample is generally measured during <br />the middle of the second quarter.
