NORDYKE PIT OVERVIEW
The Pit is located approximately 11 miles Southeast of
Westcliffe, Colorado.
The pit will be mined by the contractor's personnel
for use on company roads and to sell to the public
and the County. There will be approximately 6" to 8"
of topsoil removed and stockpiled. The overburden
could be used as borrow to construct new roadways
or could be stockpiled.
The Contractor plans to use only 1 acre at a time to
mine the gravel and will reclaim the 1 acre site after
the removal of the gravel on the acre.
After the contractor has completed removing the gravel
from the 1 acre site, he will replace the overburden
that has not been used as borrow, then he will replace
all the topsoil, evenly, over the affected area of the
Pit. Then the contractor will fertilize,reseed, and
place mulch according to the seeding plan submitted in
the Reclamation Plan submitted by the Soil Conservation.
The vegetation cover of the Pit area is sparse.
