SMUGGLER MME SITE
Salvation Ditch
5 a ExwslT B
The Salvation Ditch carries irrigation water diverted from the Roaring Fork River east of the
City of Aspen along the base of Smuggler and Red Mountains. The ditch is owned by The Salvation
Ditch Company. The ditch has been placed in buried concrete pipeline where it passes to the west
of the permit boundary. A short segment of the buried pipeline is about 200 Feet from the western
boundary of the permit area.
Centennial-Aspen Parking Lot
The Centennial-Aspen Apartments parking lot is about 140 feet from the northwest comer
of the permit boundary.
Williams Ranch and SilverLode Subdivisions
The Smuggler Mine Subdivision (see Plat Map recorded 15 Mar 1995 in Plat Book 36 at
Page 77, Office of the Clerk and Recorder, Pitkin County, Colorado) created the 29.718 acre
Smuggler Mine parcel which contains the 9.9 acre Smuggler Mine Site permit area and the
northwesterly 12.774 acre Williams Ranch and SilverLode Subdivision parcel. The entire Williams
Ranch and SilverLode Subdivision parcel was annexed into the City of Aspen. 15 lots were platted
as the SilverLode Subdivision, and 35 additional lots were platted as the Williams Ranch
Subdivision (see Plat Map recorded 9 May 1995 in Plat Book 37 at Page 3, Oftce of the Clerk and
Recorder, Pitkin County, Colorado). A 50 foot buffer was purposely created between the northerly
side line of the Smuggler Mine Site and the SilverLode Subdivision, the closer of the two
subdivisions.
The only man-made feature within 200 feet of the 9.9 acre Smuggler Mine Site today is the
subdivision access road. However, in the future, homesites on SilverLode Lots ] 3, 14 and 15 will
be within 200 feet of the Smuggler Mine Site. The closest of these lots, Lot 14, has a building
envelope that will permit building or landscaping within approximately 75 feet of the northerly
sideline of the permit boundary. Topography and landscaping, coupled with current plans for no
active use of the northwesterly portion of the Smuggler Mine Site, are expected to mitigate any
impact on the SilverLode Subdivision lots.
There is no reasonable probability that the mining will adversely affect the stability of the
Salvation Ditch pipeline, the Centennial-Aspen Apartments parking lot, the County Road, or parts
of the access road to and three nearby lots of the SilverLode Subdivision.
B-5.0 Hydrology
As illustrated in Application Exhibit E, the Mining/Reclamation Map, and the USGS Quad
Sheet reproduction, p. 7 ante, the permit area occupies the lower slopes of Smuggler Mountain.
There are no surface water resources in or flowing through the permit area nor are there any
12 - SMUGGLER MINE SITE
