eh
ESPEY. HUSTON & ASSOCIATES. INC.
•
about 1 mile long and closely follow an existing mine access road. According to
30 CFR 701.5, this road is classified as a Class I road, and the road has been
designed in conformance with the 30 CFR 817.150 through 817.153 were used as a
guide in the design. The haul road has been designed by International Engineering
Company, Inc. to OSM Class I Surface and Drainage performance standards. The
design and drainage of the road along with the cross pan design is presented in the
following paragraphs and Exhibit C-13. Parabolic vertical curves were
used extensively to conform to the existing grades.
• The road will be crowned to facilitate roadway drainage. A 2 percent
side slope from the centerline (~-inch fall per foot) was used. Since the height of
the embankments of the road are very low, the road runoff has been allowed to run
directly down the fill slopes. Where cuts aze encountered, a ditch is to be
constructed is the area of the cut which will discharge onto natural terrain.
The existing road has several culverts for cross drainage and these
culverts aze, to remain in place. No new or additional culverts aze necessary
between the State Highway and the mine site area. All culverts, however, shall be
protected by rip rap. Calculations to deronstrate that these culverts are correctly
sized for an estimated 10-year, 24-hour runoff can be found in E~chibit C-17.
The road will be 24 feet wide from the State Highway to the coal loading
azea. At this point the road splits into cone-way coal loading loop which is 12 feet
wide.
L_J
C-44
~j/ 7~i
