eh
ESPEY, HUSTON 8 ASSOCIATES, INC.
boundazy of the disturbed azea and will serve to keep flows from LW from entering
the disturbed area. The ditch has been sized to carry these flows as well as those
from upstream (Table C-15).
A diversion ditch has been constructed on the east side of the disturbed
area, intercepting flows from LE. This channel will be a small, rectangulaz channel
and required minimal erosion protection due to the 2.2-fps velocity of flow. This
diversion ditch follows the contour over most of its length. This allowed grass
seeding to be used for slope protection in most azeas. Mulch-netting was installed in
steep azeas in the fall of 1979 prior to fall 1979 seeding. Gradual transitions were
used before and after the steep sections when changing from one shape to the other.
The area between these two ditches constitutes a portion of the
disturbed azea. All surface facilities related to the mine will be located here.
These facilities include, but aze not limited to, coal and topsoil stockpiles,
access/haul road, sedimentation pond, crushers, storage bins, and offices.
One settling pond has been constructed at the northern end of the
disturbed area to collect all run-off generated in this area. The pond is sized to
contain the 10-yeaz, 24-hour storm and all the associated sediment. All the
calculations regazding the sizing of the pond and the outlet aze included in
Appendix A.
A second settling pond has been constructed to contain all run-off
generated from the 10-yeaz, 24-hour storm at the office-shower, parking lot azea.
This pond, located in the northwest corner of this small azea, 2.3 acres, is designed
to contain 5,400 cubic feet of water.
