<br />-z- <br />We commend this operator for addressing the issue of sand and <br />gravel mining pits located next to the Arkansas River. The <br />Phase 1 pit appears to be located almost outside of the meander <br />path of the river. Although the mining will occur almost 100 <br />feet from the river, the proposed reclamation plan to fill in the <br />200 - 300 feet of pit closest to the river and vegetate it with <br />riparian forest is believed to be a good non-structural design to <br />help prevent the river breaching into the pit.
