dw •
C7
5. You have stated that "Concurrent reclamation of disturbed areas will be implemented to the
extent possible." Describe in detail your plan for concurent reclamation. Provide enough
information that it will be useful in de[ermining your reclamation bond requiremen[ for
various stages or phases of your mining operation.
Provide your plan to stabilize the quarry highwalls.
~tN~6 ~~~e-'Your section 1.2 of Exhibit E states that "occasionally, occurtences of overburden will be
.91,1 ~~ removed from some of the gravel bar areae to be mined." Please provide more discussion of
' this statement. Is the material to be removed as product or as salvage material for
reclamation? If it is to be used for reclamation, provide more details regarding storage and
placement in reclamation backfill.
7
~ °S`ection 1.3 of your reclamation plan states that soil screened from the gravel baz aggregate
will be saved for future use as topsoil in reclamation. It is assumed that you aze referring to
fines, which will be primarily sand and small size gravel. This fraction of the pit run material
will most likely be very low in nutrient value and water holding capacity. Unless properly
amended this material will probably not be a good plant growth medium and may erode due
to lack of vegetative cover. Please explain how you intend to overcome these problems.
Your section 1.3 soil salvage states that at least l0 feet will be stripped ahead of any azea to
be mined. It is assumed that this is in reference to the gravel mining operation. What is the
maximum buffer azea to be stripped ahead of mining granite andliutesfistte? / . /
G~~ f1`rti~-~
10.E J~4'our section 1.7 states that "For future reclamation by the operator, landowner or another
R`f ~~ party an appropriate amount of topsoil will be left in a noticeable, shaped, and seeded
`du~'Yl/ stockpile within 50 feet of the mineral stockpiles remaining after final reclamation." Please
explain this statement. There should be no mineral stockpiles or topsoil stockpiles left after
final reclamation.
11. ~~ection 2.3 of your post mining reclamation activities states that "Overburden will be placed
,,,..yL to create apost-mining topography that is self-draining and which blends into adjacent
~lt undisturbed lands. It is assumed that you are referring to the gravel pit azeas. Please provide
an estimate of the amount of overburden to be backfilled into the mined out gravel pits. The
Division recommends that if you have excess overburden materials (not needed to create
appropriate grades), that you consider using that material with other materials and
amendments to reclaim quarry benches.
12. 2 -four proposed permanent seed mix does not include a legume; however, your section 2.6
p_of~Q~, states that legume seed will be inoculated with the cortect rhizobium prior to shipping.
II "" ~'Gr~j`~'~p Please discuss this discrepancy. It would be an improvement to your seed mix if you were to
add an appropriate legume. You might consider contacting the local Natural Resource
~ O~Conservation Service office for a recommendation.
~LS1 1~. The DOW has recommended that fourwing saltbush be replaced with Rhus trilobata
,~ ~ (oakbtvsh sumac) Ribies SPP. (Curran[) or Amelanchier SPP. (Mountain Mologany) as a
7
