Trees make
up a very small percentage of the plant cover at this site. They include Aspen and Willow
species and Alder, and aze mostly on the slopes of the adjacent properties.
Shrubs in the area include Willow species and Big Sage Brush. The percentage of cover for the
shrubs is also relatively small as the azea has been planted and used as grazing pasture.
Grasses and forbs make up the majority (over SO%) of the plant cover at this site. Species
include the following:
Tufted Hair Grass
Bluegrass
Orchazd Grass
Nebraska Sedge
Baltic Rush
Yellow Sweet Clover
Rocky Mm. Iris
Elephants Head
Smooth Brome Grass
Red Top
Timothy
Water Sedge
Beaked Sedge
Clover
Mountain Lupine
Blue Bells
Western Wheat Grass
Corn Husk Lily
The choice for reclamation at this site is rangeland. Based on information in the Summit County
Soils Survey, the soils in the meadow will produce a high of 3,000 pounds of av-dry forage per
acre to a low of 500 pounds of air-dry forage per acre, dependant on the soil type. The majority
of the rangeland created after the mining will produce approximately 1,600 pounds of air-dry
forage. This number could be higher due to changes in range management in the futwe.
Notes on Exhibit C/Pre-Mining and Mining Plan Map, indicate the relationship of the types of
vegetation to the existing topography. Notes on the soils map for Exhibit I -Soils Information,
indicate the relationship of the present vegetation to the soil types.
J-1
