Installation of water quality and phreatic monitoring
wells in the tailing pond embankment to determine seepage
water quality.
2. Modification of tailings depositional methods to increase
the interior pond beach area and move ponded water away
from embankment.
3. Installation of a bentonite seal at the northeast tailings
embankment-roadbed abutment.
4. Installation of a gravity drain and sump collection system
at the toe of the pond embankment to capture and retain
seepage waters if the above procedures failed to eliminate
visible seepage occurring at the embankment toe.
Water quality monitoring wells have been installed around the embankment
perimeter; however, adequate data has not been obtained to date to ascertain
seepage water quality and subsequent impact to adjacent surface and cround
water systems. Seepage quality data will be submitted as soon as sufficient
data is obtained, which is anticipated by August 31.
