The Dominson'~oil, because of its coarse <br />~exturey'retaine very little xater. The site is in an 11-inch annual <br />oci~.#,ation moss. These two features cause the soil to be very <br />~rpughty~. paly drought resistant plant species can exist on this site <br />alli't'~+iiut..sapplatuental irrigation. The topsoil is a~,proximately six_ inches <br />~;-~F1ick pfd "1s'_a gravelly sandy loam. The next layer is about five inches <br />k:and; :is' a very gravelly sandy loam. 9elort eleven inches gravel and <br />'C ~i7;q,~' extend more than 60 inches in depth. The top three inches are <br />-not acid or alkaline. below throe inches the soils are mildly alkaline. <br />$his.'aoil.iey very rapidly permeable. 4later holding capacity and natural <br />iart~.lY~y are low. <br />~! ~~a~rseq, fortes and shrubby .plants exist at the site. The forties and shrugs <br />~'.igaaCdeijl pea, scarlet globemal3owy yarrox, buckwheat, fringed sage, <br />r',~ear cactus, yucca, apache plume, snake xeed and rabbit brush. <br />~~ <br />'~`heila$ter~tsed precip~at:,on map shows the ~•ravel pit site to be in <br />a'pproxtmately a 10-11 inch average annual precipitation zone. The izighest <br />precipitation nonths are April, Piay; July and Au~xst.
