When extraction is complete,
the top of the stope is blasted in to close it. F~lmost
no surface change occurs due to the thinness of t}ie vein.
Due to the small amount of clay extracted, one of these
stopes will last for a period of 5 years or more, so the
surface disturbance is negligible.
(2-g) Conformance to Section 34-32-116 (1-a) to (1-r):
At the conclusion of mining operations, the benches from
which mining operations under the permit have taken place
will be graded and smoothed insofar as the nature of the
material will allow, and in a manner which will beast
allow retention of surface water. There is no toF>soil
being removed, and none is available or could rea:,onably
be moved up onto the benches, so the surface treatment
will have to be limited to scorifying, seeding and mul-
ching, as suggested by the attached memorandum from the
Soil Conservation Service. It is hoped that satie;fact-
ory wild life grass cover can be developed on the benches
and if shrubs or small trees can be established t}~ey will
be planted in equivalence to the natural growth ire the
area.
The major part of the nine acre area will not be L.sed for
mining, but is required for the roads which are used in
hauling. If desired, these also could be levellecl and
seeded at the conclusion of operations, but this H~ould
necessarily be more than ten years away.
The old mining works in the area, some of which date back
to the late 1800's, will not be reclaimed except insofar
as they are disturbed again in present operations.
Areas involved in the proposed nine acre tract on which
mining becomes completed will be reclaimed as it i.s deter-
mined that it will not be necessary to disturb therm again
in the operation of the mine. We are quite agreeable to
using the methods proposed by the Soil Conservation Service.
(1-b) Final grading of the mined benches will be such that
a slight inward slope will be left on them to retain
