• The heavy metals with a "t" subscript by their symbol represent total measurements, while
the others are dissolved concentrations. Dissolved and total concentrations are similar for most of
the heavy metals, except for iron concentrations in some wells where the total values are
significantly greater in some wells.
Iron concentrations have varied over large ranges near the mine pits and at distant wells
but no consistent trends have been observed. Levels of aluminum, barium, boron, phosphate and
manganese have also varied over significant ranges but no consistent trends have been observed.
Arsenic, cadmium, chromium, copper and lead concentrations have been low with a few exceptions.
Copper concentrations in wells GBS and GE3 have been higher mainly prior to mining. A few
values of total copper and total lead have also been elevated in a few wells without being
• consistently observed A few early lead concentrations in wells GE2 and GE3 were also observed.
Molybdenum, nickel, selenium and vanadium concentrations have stayed low. Only one value of
radium 226 in well GA2 exceeded the proposed drinking water standard by the EPA of 20 pCi/1.
Three values from well GD3 also slightly exceeded this value. The radium data does not show any
consistent trends but the values are *ypical of natural variations and analytical variations.
..
7-66
3-13 (Revised 09/21/95)
