the northern end of the backfill aquifer will likely recover above the pre-mine level. Table 2-1 of
the 1990 Annual Hydrologic Report (Hydro-Engineering, 1991) presents aquifer properties at
Trapper Mine. The permeabilities from the backfill aquifers are significantly greater than the coal
aquifers which they replace.
Additional drawdown east of D pit and the overall water-level rise on the west side are
the main changes in the QR water-level map at Trapper Mine. A water level increase of roughly
13 ft. at well GE] has slightly affected the contours near this well. Gradients and flow directions
for the QR aquifer in 1994 are similar to those observed in 1993.
Map No. 2-2 presents the water-level elevation contours for the HI aquifer in the fall of
1994. Wells GBS, GC1, GE2, GF4, GP3, GP7, and GMP-I which are completed in the HI aquifer,
and backfill wells GFS and GF7, were used in the development of this map. Wells GFS and GF7
are completed in the backfill in the area where the H and I coal seams were mined. Flow in the HI
aquifer has been changed mainly near the A, D, and E pits and the former B and C pits, now
recovering. The overall flow regime in this aquifer is northerly, similar to that observed in 1993
(see Hydro-Engineering, 1994). The ground-water gradient between the backfill aquifer and the
unmined HI aquifer downgradient is relatively flat as it is in the QR backfill. The main change in
the HI contours is near the active A pit in the Pyeatt drainage. Small changes in the contours near
wells GE2 and GP3 are due to iarge changes in the water levels since 1993.
The 3rd White Sandstone aquifer water-level elevations are presented on Map No. 2-3.
Wells G$2, GC2, GE3, P8, 81-03a, and GP9 were used in the development of this map. Flow
direction in the 3rd White Sandstone is mainly toward the north, as expected. Additional data from
wells GE3 and 81-03a indicate that the 3rd White Sandstone water flows toward the west between
2-10
•
