LEIGH WHITEHEAD ~ ASSOCIATES
CONSULTING ENGINEERS ANO SURVEYORS
0 WEST LAS VEGAS • PHONE 83 E.S17D
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO 80903
State of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation
723 Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Castle Concrete Company
Snyder Quarry
Application No. 77-210
EXHIBIT G - WATER INFORMATION
A. The present mining operation at the Snyder Quarry will not directly adversely
affect any surface or gmlmdwater system within the area of the operation.
Natural runoff from the mine area has historically flowed from Northwest to
Southeast through the area presently being mined. The historical runoff concen-
trated in a small tributary to Black Creek. This tributary ran only intermittently
during periods of rainfall. The estimated peak runoff quantity of the area at the
Southeast corner of the mine (present location of the berm being constructed) is
46.0 CFS for a 50-year duration storm. This is based on a contributing area of
29.5 acres.
The mining operation has involved disturbance of approximately 23.3 acres of
the original contributing area of 29.5 acres. The disturbance extelds nearly to
the upper limit of the contributing basin with the only runoff affe:ting the mine
being that which falls directly on the mine. With the increased runoff due to
disturbance it is estimated that a peak flow during the 50-year sto~m of 79.5 CFS
would be reached. Since the construction of the berm to an approximate height of
50 feet above the bottom of the mined area is presently being accom~~lished as part
of the mine operation, none of the historical flow or the increased flow due to
the mining operation will enter the intermittant tributary to Black Creek.
The mining operation utilizes approximately 2500 gallons of water per day in
its processing plant and pollution control systems. This water is r~ostly absorbed
into the product with possibly 25% escaping and concentrating at the low point of
. the mine near the berm. Compared to the rainfall runoff quantitiy,
this is a negligible amount of water being retained.
S-G-1
