because it would not provide any significant improvement of the site
• for its proposed use and could, because of rock splitting by roots,
also create severe face instabilities that would harm the
utility of the site for its proposed use.
3) 5-E-4 - Will any groundwater be encountered in this operation?
RESPONSE D3. No groundwater has been encountered in a
decade and none anticipated. The Snyder operation will have no
adverse effects on surface on groundwater systems which would directly
affect or endanger the mining operation or the adjoining landowners.
4) 5-E-4 - Please supply an analysis of the limestone fines
which will be used as a growth medium.
RESPONSE D4. The fines referred to are derive3 from
exactly the same material which will be left on the terr.sces.
. Analysis of this limestone was done at all three quarrie,a. Nutritional
data is derived from the CSU analysis and physical characteristics
from the Lincoln-Devore study presented in the soil exhi;~it.
The analyses done have shown that with suitabl~a
supplementation as recommended in the CSU analysis the physical
characteristics of the material should be capable of sup~~orting
growth when coupled with a plan that allows for sufficient
development of nutrient cycling in the soil.
We believe that soil analyses are useful in dei:ermining
the suitability of a medium for growth but that the qual:.ty of
the soil is far from being an independent variable in the designing
of a reclamation plan and that many other things can be done to

5-E-13*
