SLURCO Corporation <br />Facility: Canadian Mine, C-81-026 <br />Pond Identification: Pond Number 1 <br />The basses for this section of this certification are Rules 4.05.9 (10) and (11) of the Regulations of the <br />Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board for Coal Mining. <br />/(al Eadstine end reauired monitoring procedures and instrumentation. <br />Examinations of the pond are required quarterly by a qualified registered professional engineer or other <br />qualified individual under their direction [Rule 4.05.6(13) and 4.05.9(13)]. Quarterly inspections were made <br />on 28 March 1996; 9 May 1996; 22 July 1996~and 10 October 1996.~The 10 October 1996 inspection was <br />accomplished by Mr. William Mahoney, Greystone, under the direction of Mr. Byron G. Walker, a registered <br />professional engineer. Mr. Walker's qualifications are outlined under paragraph (1) below. There is no <br />existing or required instrumentation associated with the pond. <br />(bl The design depth and elevation of anv impounded waters at the time of the initial certification report or <br />~ the average and maximum depths and elevations of anv impounded waters over the past year for the annual <br />certification reports. <br />The design depth of the impounded waters was 6 feet (between the base of the dam and the invert of the <br />emergency spillway) and the design maximum elevation of impounded waters was 8200 (elevation of the invert <br />of the emergent' spillway) feet at the time of the initial certification report (Figure 2, Mining and Reclamation <br />Plan, March 30, 1981, with 6 Revisions). The average depth of impounded waters (reported in the four 1996 <br />quarterly reports) is approximately 2 feet, an elevation of 8196. The maximum observed depth was 5.0 feet, <br />an elevation of 8199.0. <br />(cl Existing storage capacity of the dam or embankment. <br />~ The existing storage capacity of the dam is estimated to be approximately 6.4 acre feet (from the equivalent <br />sediment level to the invert of the emergency spillway)(Stage-Storage Curve Sedimentation Pond #1, Figure <br />Q-3, 1129/94). <br />(d) Anv fires occurring in the construction material up to the date of the initial certification or over the oast <br />i Year for the annual certification reports. <br />No fires were reported up to the date of the initial certification, and no indication of fires in the construction <br />materials of [he dam was observed during the past year. <br />/(el Any other ascect of the dam or embankment alfectine stability <br />No aspect of the dam currently affects stability.
