C-80-003
MODIFICATION OF SIIRFACE WATER MONITORING
Dear Mr. Squire:
BUSINESS OFFICE
5731 STATE HIGHWAY 13
MEEKER, COLORADO 97661
(30J) 8264451

DEC 7 1933
Y~iiI~~ED i..1:i•JC~?
RECL~d~l4ATiG;~J IDiViS101`]
The following information is submitted as a request for
a Technical Revision to the H-G Coal Company Mining Permit No.
C-80-003. The request provides for a modification to the surface
water monitoring requirements.
The current surface water monitoring program for the
H-G mine includes four sites. Two of the sites are located at the
reclaimed minesite along Hayden-Gulch and two of the sites are
located in the vicinity of the loadout along Dry Creek.
The current monitoring frequency is semi-annual and
coincides with periods of high runoff volumes from precipitation
events. We are uncertain as to the rationale behind sampling
following a precipitation event and request at this time to drop
this requirement. This procedure is not representative of average
conditions found at the sites. In fact, the current procedure is
likely to show only worst case due to the temporary effects of
excessive stream loading during precipitation events.
We propose to maintain the current semi-annual monitoring
frequency, but sample in the spring and fall corresponding to
periods of natural high and low flows in Hayden-Gulch and Dry
Creek.
7~ fe /~si,.,-. was -~
QI~- ~IQ - s6 .
